CAPE MAY POINT

Picture

The Borough of Cape May Point - just 192 acres in size and one of the smallest municipalities in New Jersey - is a magical place.

Cape May Point was founded as “Sea Grove,” by Alexander Whilldin in 1875 and designated as a Borough in 1878. It has evolved from a bustling seaside resort with multiple hotels and other commercial properties to the serene, low key community we enjoy today. Famous residents included President Benjamin Harrison and retailer John Wanamaker, also a Co-Founder.

The Point retains its “destination” status for many reasons, including the millions of birds and butterflies that migrate across its borders annually. The world renowned Cape May Bird Observatory - located adjacent to Lake Lily - draws thousands of visitors annually to its walks and festivals.

The various Cape May Point community organizations host social, charitable and conservation programs year-round and are rich with opportunities for volunteers of all interests and abilities. We encourage all property owners and full and part-time residents to consider volunteering, supporting and participating in Cape May Point programs.
