About Cape May Point and CMPTA

Cape May Point was founded as “Sea Grove,” by Alexander Whilldin in 1875 and designated as a Borough in 1878. It has evolved from a bustling seaside resort with multiple hotels and other commercial properties to the serene, low key community we enjoy today. Famous residents included President Benjamin Harrison and retailer John Wanamaker, also a Co-Founder.

Like many things "Cape May Point" the Taxpayers Association has a long history. The Association was started in 1936, and has an over a 85 year history supported by many dedicated volunteers. Not a typical Taxpayers Association, the CMPTA has a unique mission---to continue making "The Point" a special place.

We work to keep our members informed and provide opportunities to enhance our environment. Our events bring people together, so that neighbors can meet and forge life-long friendships. We encourage everyone to get involved. Working together creates the fabric of community. And that is what makes Cape May Point special!

Our Mission

The Cape May Point Taxpayers' Association is a non-profit, charitable organization established in 1936, with a mission to:

Advance the well-being of the Borough of Cape May Point,
Foster a sense of community pride and collaboration,
Organize and endorse events and initiatives that enhance community life, and
Undertake other activities that further these goals.

CMPTA is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, four Non-Resident Directors and three Resident Directors. The Board meets throughout the year and holds an Annual Public Meeting in late summer or early fall.

CMPTA is a tax-exempt organization under IRS Section 501(c)(3) Federal EIN 51-0150774.

Communications

CMPTA keeps residents informed, supports the community, and sponsors seasonal programs throughout Cape May Point.

Published twice a year the newsletter features regular contributors and guest columnists who share information, perspectives, and photos.

This bi-weekly email bulletin provides taxpayers with updates on Borough government meetings, and upcoming events.

This website features information about our programs and a comprehensive calendar of Cape May Point Events.

Commnity Programs

Dunes Maintenance

Beach dune maintenance has always been a priority for CMPTA, which sponsors the annual planting of critical vegetation.

Ice Cream Social

CMPTA sponsors the Ice Cream Social, inviting everyone to welcome summer with neighbors.

Bedfellows

Befellows are neighbors who take responsibility for specific garden beds around Pavilion Circle and West Lake Lily. CMPTA offers a small stipend.

Lighting Awards

The Lighting Awards salute those who brighten the Point in December with sparkle, charm and whimsy. CMPTA sponsors gift cards for the winners.
